The Trip to Tokyo

As you can see, I am a wee behind on the blogging...I just didn't want to spend my precious weekend with Stefan in front of the computer! Will catch up everything today...it's been such a wonderful whirlwind and I am in love with Japan and Tokyo. But first.....

After hardly sleeping- maybe four hours?- I was READY to go on Thursday morning. We got to the airport (where of course they wanted to charge us for overweight luggage, so we did some reshuffling...for once, it wasn't my bag, though!). As we headed away from the check in counter, I looked at Stefan and said, "Okay, where's my seat...Row twenty five!" and he got this funny smile on his face and told me he had upgraded me on the way to Tokyo so we could fly together! Such a wonderful surprise and he is a sweetheart. It made the flight go by much more quickly (although I am certain I won't manage the same luck on the way back...currently, there is only one business class- or as S calls it, BIZZYness class- seat left!). Totally elegant and we got to toast with champagne as we took to the air!

The best part was the bento box served for dinner...so many little Japanese surprises in it and it made me feel like we were really on our way! I thoroughly enjoyed my little pickles, bits of fish and something yakitori like (chicken), and a mini miso soup. Again, I barely slept on the plane, which has been a blessing, I think, as I have adjusted to the time change much more easily than I imagined and have not felt much jet lag. I was so tired by the first night!

When we deplaned, there was a slight snafu as we waited for the car to the Mandarin but I noticed a name of a friend of Dad's from Morgan Stanley and ambushed him as he arrived. What are the odds! But at immigration, I got my first Konichiwa on Japanese soil and S and I had a nice laugh about that.
